ownership mindset

Hey ,
This summer, I’ve worked very minimal hours.
My days have mainly consisted of visiting farms, water parks, forests, and doing toddler crafts…
Yet, my business has continued to bring in multiple millions.
I couldn’t have even dreamt of this level of freedom a few years ago.
I was very needed, very tied to the business, and my input directly reflected on the revenue numbers each week.
The biggest shift I’ve made?
I started running my business like an owner, and not an employee.
But believe it or not, this email isn’t going to be about how it’s essential for you to make this shift in order to have freedom in your business.
It wasn’t just a “decision” I could make overnight… it was a full overhaul of my business that actually unlocked and allowed this.
To be honest it drives me nuts when I see advice like this on social media…
“Stop working like an employee, and adopt the owner mindset.”
Great. But, that simple mindset shift won’t have your business change overnight and actually allow you more space while continuing to grow.
The main shift that I made, was setting up my business as a profitable, predictable and repeatable engine.
This way, there’s an entire playbook that my team know how to run, in order to continue producing results.
I never delegated anything that was broken or not yet working, expecting other people to be able to figure out how to make my business a success.
I got it working, then I worked with my team to be able to expand on what’s already working.
The offer is irresistable.
The funnel converts.
The traffic source works when the right content is produced consistently.
Those 3 elements are what I call a “sales engine” and they’re essential for any business that wants predictability.
We have a handful of offers at bossbabe, so I made sure we had a working sales engine for each of them, and then built out an extensive revenue calendar.
A revenue calendar details what activities actually drive revenue in the business, they are the core needle movers.
For every single month, I list out a “front end revenue source” and a “back end revenue source” - generally that means we are selling something publicly to our community, as well as upselling or cross-selling to our current customers.
By combining a revenue calendar with working sales engines, my team know exactly what to work on and when, as well as how to do it.
That’s the difference between an owner mindset, and an owner strategy.
The main mindset piece?
Not letting productivity guilt get in the way of having actual space in your calendar.
A lot of entrepreneurs I know who absolutely could create this level of freedom in the next few months find themselves feeling so guilty over the idea of stepping back, while their employees work full-time in the business.
My belief is that this mindset is actually a projection of our own wants and desires onto our team.
Do you know for certain that your team would rather have this space and time?
Do you know for certain that they’d rather put in the decade of working 24/7, risking everything they own and putting themselves out their to fail publicly… in order to have this type of freedom?
I try not to project my own desires onto others, and I think that supports the mindset shift required to step into business ownership.
If this email has made you curious about shifting out of employee mode and into ownership mode, here’s the exercise I’d suggest as a next step:
1: Visualize 5 years from now, what would your ideal work and personal life look like? How would you be spending your time?
2: Map out all of the things in the business that ONLY you can and are doing currently, and review which of those things you’d eventually like to take off your plate.
3: Audit your sales engine. Where are the biggest gaps? Your offer, funnel or traffic source?
The answers to these questions should start to give you a roadmap of next steps.
We’ve got more on this coming soon too, so stay tuned! 😉
XO
Natalie

📸 Feel like no-one ever takes good pictures or videos of you for the gram? I scrolled past this reel from Danielle Bernstein today and had to save it. She shows exactly what she asks for when someone’s taking her photo and it’s genius.
🍋 I’ve been going strong on my daily Glōci habit and I honestly can’t skip a day. It gets my digestion moving, stops me getting bloated and boosts my overall hydration. Use code BOSSBABE for a big discount if you want to try!
🎙 We always commit to sharing the realness with you, even if it’s a little edgy… Lindsay recorded this very candid episode on how her ayahuasca experience completely shifted her relationship to motherhood, and I don’t think we’ve ever had so many emotional replies as a response. It’s so powerful.
